I don’t recall ever playing such a solitaire game as what you describe, however, it sounds almost like War – but you need 2 people for that. As for other solitaire games, there are so many. If the child has access to the internet, there are numerous solitaire games, such as Spider, Aces Up, Free Cell, Tower, of course all of these are in either Yahoo or Pogo. It would give you some ideas and you could print out the rules. Hoyle used to have a cd that you could buy and install them. Lots of games to play alone. Hope this helps.
Look up the insructions for Canasta, Gin, Rummie, Poker, Go Fish. Anything like that should keep them happy. There is a real catchy dice game too called Yahtzee. Look that one up as well.
