Did you want a card game or an other kind of game. For card games I would suggest Rummy. For an other type of game I would suggest Scene It the DVD edition, sooo much fun in a group.
Its nice to see that there are still some great family get togethers… Get everybody to write 3 things about themselves ( 2 that are true and 1 that isnt) then everybody else tries to guest which one is the lye….Another way to play this game is to have everybody write something about themselves that most people wouldn’t know on a piece of paper… Then everybody put their piece of paper in a bag. Mix them all up. Then pull them out one at a time and say: example: “answer 1: I always kept a nightlight under my bed and would take it out as soon as I was alone” all the players right: answer 1 on a paper and writes the name of the person they think did this…you keep going until you have pull out all the answers out of the bag and everybody has as many answers on their paper as their are people….Then you read them out loud and get to see who was right….Have fun:)
A card game we play is Blackout…
Start by dealing everyone 1 card, then place one card face up. The suit of that face up card is trump. Then everyone bids on how many tricks they will take. The first hand will be 0 or 1. Who ever keeps score will write 0 or 1 next to each person’s name. Then play your cards in turn, who ever makes their bid add a 1 in front of the number they bid. If someone doesn’t get what they bid their score is blacked out for that round. Then the next player in turn deals 2 cards to each person and places extra cards down and faces up one card whose suit will be trump. Now everyone bids their hand, anything from 0 to 2. and anyone who makes their bids gets a 1 in front of there bid for their points that hand. The scores are added up at the end of the game, high score wins. If someone bids 1 and either gets 0 or more then there score for that hand is just blacked out. Continue all the way to 10 then back down to 1 card. add up final scores, high score wins. I guess with 8 people you won’t be able to go to 10 cards. Just go to 6 then work back down to 1.
Apples to Apples is great, Time’s Up is fun, and GiftTRAP is especially good for families since you need to know the other players to do well. My group loves all three of these. All can be purchased through Amazon or any of the online boardgame stores.
My two favorites are Cranium and CatchPhrase, although you need to be sure you have equal teams for both. Cranium Conga is a lot of fun too – don’t need equal groups for that one – and is great for families since it’s a “how much do you know about this person” game (I’m always surprised by most of the answers!)
One of my current favorites is “Time’s Up” which is a really great new game, but for an easy game that doesn’t need to be purchased try Fold Down. Everyone starts out with a piece of paper. At the top they write down a phrase, any phrase. It could be a quote from somewhere it could be a random sentence. Anyways, everyone passes their paper to the person on their right. That person reads the phrase and illustrates it. Then they fold the paper so that only the picture is showing. Then you pass the papers on again. The next person will only see a picture. They must write a caption for the picture and then fold it so only the caption is showing, they pass, then illustrate and so on until each person gets their original paper back. Then read the results. Hilarity may ensue. Especially after a few glasses of wine.
