What is a fun, free, and online computer game that has a multi-player network?

Anyone know of some free online games that have a multiplayer network feature to play friends that aren’t sitting next to you? Like a game you don’t have to download; a fun game for when your bored that’s quick and easy to play (i.e. pocket tanks–haven’t found one that has a multiplayer network though). It could be action, or shooting, etc.,anything except boardgames. Any suggestions?
