Peekaboo, nursery rhymes, freeze dance, make her in the bed, and pounce next to her. Free style games are best at this age. Use lots of parentese when talking to your child…this is a voice that is a higher pitch than usual, and simple questions. Toddlers respond to simple, fun activities.
OMG they are so much fun at this age. almost anything can make them giggle with laughter, peekaboo, dancing, singing, but My 18m girl loves to play catch. She would steel something in front of me (like the TV remote) and just looks at me with a smile….so i comply to her demand and just run after her around the house…pretending to be unable to catch her. Once I finally do, we both ball giggling. She can play this four hours, of course I can’t (to her dismay!)
my daughter is 20 months old and her favorite game is to pretend that she is sleeping, and she even makes the snoring noises, with her eyes open…. and then i shake her saying “wake up, wake up” and then she puts her head up and says “oh hi!” then i say “good morning!”
then she pushes me down and says “goodnight”… and so i close my eyes and make snoring noises, and she either shakes me, or kisses me to wake me up… and then i pretend to wake up… lol.. she loves it.
i found that anything that made them laugh. it was usually at my expense, but it was worth it. when it came to having fun there is no structure, my wife might not agree, but i’m the dad (still a kid). just enjoy this age as much as you can.
remember to them everything is a possible plaything. so don’t go buying an expensive toy, because they’ll just end up playing with the box.
good luck
Hi – your baby might be a little young for this, but we started it with my son at about 19/20 months and he caught on right away and loved it! We made our own matching game out of the free Disney paint swatches from Lowes. They’re just little cardboard cards with colored Mickey Mouse heads on them, and they come in all the primary colors. Just grab 2 of each color – lay 1 of each down on the floor and have your baby match the colored cards. My son loved this game so much and he was saying and matching all of his colors by 20 months old. He STILL plays it and loves it and he’s 23 months old now. It’s a big hit in our house. If you don’t want to do the paint swatches, you could make your own cards, or use the cards from the game Memory. Hope that helps!
